Home Hills - Stance X Like The Wind

“Why does a man climb mountains? Why has he forced his tired and sweating body up here when he might instead have been sitting at his ease in a deckchair at the seaside, looking at girls in bikinis, or fast asleep, or sucking ice-cream, according to his fancy. On the face of it the thing doesn’t make sense.”

Alfred Wainwright.

The Lake District, a national park in the far north-west corner of England, has long been a magnet for those who love the outdoors. But the area has never yielded much to its popularity in terms of the idiosyncrasies that make it so special. Locals still call lakes ‘tarns’ and mountains ‘fells’. And every weekend it is possible to find small, brutal fell races, with none of the pomp of bigger trail races and all of the pain and effort associated with pitting oneself against the hills and the weather.

It is here that endurance athlete, firefighter and family man Ricky Lightfoot calls home. In Home Hills Ricky talks about what makes the north-western Lakes such a special place. How the time he spends running, scrambling and careening up and down the fells is essential for his physical and mental health.

Home Hills is an ode to a place seen through the eyes of a local. By turns thoughtful, inspirational and motivating, this is a film that will give you a moment to reflect on the places that are special for you – where you can see yourself running, perhaps forever.
