Introducing Gemita Samarra #InsideStance
What better way to introduce our trailblazing female #PunkandPoet than on International Women’s Day?
Gemita Samarra is a like no other 25 year old. Under her current roster lies a number of talents: Stunt Woman, Charity Founder, Social Change Activist and Documentary Film Producer. Not to mention that she has also been previously had free diving, Underwater Modelling, competitive show-jumping and synchronised swimming in her clutches. Gemita is a true force of nature and has forged out her path all on her own.
Framed by her “Get on and do it” mindset, Gemita’s work ethic and boundless creativity continue to provide her with truly unique perspectives. We are proud to have Gemita as part of our #PunkandPoet family and introduce her signature ‘Oasis’ sock:
WHERE DID YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH STANCE BEGIN?
I knew Stance before I got involved with the brand, I flew out to America to do a [modelling] campaign with them. I got on really well with the team and they invited me to the HQ, so I went to see them. Loved the office, loved the whole vibe and fell in love with the team.
HOW ARE STANCE DIFFERENT TO ANY OTHER BRANDS THAT YOU HAVE WORKED WITH?
Stance are unlike any other brand I have ever worked with. They have given me a lot of freedom to what I want to do,be creative and find my own path. They have supported me with anything I want to do from my charity work, my designs and through to my sport: they have supported me with anything I have been doing.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR SOCK?
When I started designing the socks, knowing that they were going to be training socks, I wanted [them] to be something that was going to inspire people to get outside. The design involves trees, mountains and the ocean: everything that is a big part of my life. Whether that is surfing, climbing or running in the mountains. I also wanted something that fitted all seasons, I didn’t want anything that was too summery or too wintery… I wanted something that could be worn all year round.
HOW DID YOU FIND THE DESIGN PROCESS?
I was a little overwhelmed at first! I was given so much freedom with it. My ideas were a little too broad to begin with, so we worked together on narrowing that down. We worked together on the colourways and how we incorporate that onto a design.
WHERE DID YOU FIND YOUR CREATIVITY FROM?
I was actually in hospital when I started designing them! I am usually travelling around doing so many things, so I don’t usually get to sit down and [be able to] go through colours and design inspiration… but I was in hospital so it was all I was doing!
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE PHOTOSHOOT FOR YOUR SOCK COLLECTION...
So when I was shooting my sock collection, we were shooting just south of San Clemente, it was this amazing basketball court that was based on the beach. We set up this big rope and I was climbing it! We wanted it to be outdoors and something you can just go and do outside… nothing too planned! My life isn’t planned and I wanted my shoot to be based around that.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE PART OF THE STANCE #PUNKANDPOET FAMILY?
I am really proud to be a Punk and Poet. It’s really quite humbling to part of such an amazing family. Stance gives me a lot of freedom as well, not only in terms of design and that side of the partnership, but also with my own projects with my charity. I don’t know any other brand that would do that.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE STANCE IN THREE WORDS?
Refreshing, Creative and out-there.
